Sedation Dentistry

We offer advanced sedation options to help children stay calm, comfortable, and relaxed during dental visits. By understanding each child’s needs, we select the safest, most appropriate sedation method to make their treatment experience smooth and stress-free.

Dental Sedation Options on the North Shore, MA

Dental sedation helps children feel calm, comfortable, and relaxed during dental procedures by easing anxiety and minimizing discomfort. Options such as local anesthesia, laughing gas, and IV sedation allow dentists to complete treatment safely and effectively while creating a more positive experience for young patients. Sedation is especially helpful for children with dental anxiety or sensitive gag reflexes, or for those needing more involved procedures.

Our team offers personalized sedation options, including IV sedation at both our Salem and Lynn locations. During a consultation, we’ll evaluate your child’s needs, discuss the safest and most appropriate sedation method, and guide you through what to expect. Our goal is to ensure every child receives gentle, stress-free care and feels confident returning for future visits.

  • What is laughing gas, and what does it do?

Laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, is a mild and safe sedative commonly used in pediatric dentistry to help children feel relaxed during dental treatment. It’s delivered through a small mask placed over the nose and works within minutes, reducing anxiety without putting the child to sleep. Once the mask is removed, the effects wear off quickly, allowing kids to return to normal activities right after their appointment.

  • Is dental sedation used for children's teeth cleanings?

Typically, sedation isn’t used for routine cleanings. We focus on helping your child feel relaxed and familiar with our team and the cleaning process so sedation usually isn’t needed. If you believe your child may benefit from sedation, reach out to our office—we’re happy to discuss available options and determine what’s best.

  • What should I expect with IV sedation for my child?

With IV sedation, your child will be given medication through a small IV line that helps them feel deeply relaxed and calm throughout the procedure. They will remain conscious but may not remember much of the visit. A trained provider closely monitors their breathing, heart rate, and comfort the entire time. After the procedure, your child may feel drowsy, so they’ll need time to rest and must be escorted home. IV sedation is safe, closely supervised, and designed to make treatment stress-free.
